Prague 6 once again remembers the honorary citizen Václav Havel | PRAGUE 6 | News
It has been 11 years since the death of the last Czechoslovak and first Czech president, Václav Havel. And in Prague’s sixth district, it has already become a tradition to commemorate the date of the death of this world-famous statesman in Shabbat Park in Dejvice. This year, too, they made a heart out of candles there, as one of the symbols of this policy.
stand up: Prague 6 thus annually commemorates not only the Czech president, but also its citizen. Václav Havel received honorary citizenship of Prague 6 shortly before his death, in September 2011.
“He lived here once in history, in the street U dejwického rybníčku. Then his last address was in the street Dělostřelecká 1, and I coincidentally lived one street next door. He was our neighbor and also a very popular person in Prague 6 and so we keep this tradition to this day,” said Prague 6 councilor Jan Lacina from the STAN movement.
Every year, for several days before all the candles burn out, people gather here to honor Havel’s memory.
“We are actually aiming this reminder at December 18, which is the anniversary of Havel’s short death. But we usually start before that. This time on Friday, which is two days ahead of time. We expect that the heart will be here at least until Sunday, December 18 , maybe even longer.” reminded Jan Lacina.
People are already used to bringing their own candles and taking home quotes by Václav Havel in return.
“It worked for us here last year that you have ribbons with quotes under this board, which take these people apart,” reminded the councilor of Prague 6.
Jan Lacina also hopes that the new head of state will be as popular as Václav Havel. Ladislav Jakub, TV Prague.
