Asimakopoulou: Stop slandering Greece

Specifically, according to the relevant announcement, he said that “the issues of the press are also the issues of the Rule of Law and we face such issues in my homeland, Greece, so stop slandering Greece, which, from the first moment, welcomed the European Act. on Freedom of the Media, a landmark initiative for the EU”.
And, as he said, “we are therefore actively participating in the fruitful dialogue, through which a single unchanging framework will crystallize, which will strengthen freedom and strengthen democracy”.
The press representative of the ND Eurogroup also underlined that “it is Greece that has initiatives and actions to ensure the protection, security, freedom and strengthening of the journalistic function, and this, through a Task Force that coordinates the action of the state and the professions in the field, defends their interests and is in cooperation with the European Authorities and the competent commissioner”.
“Transparency, ladies and gentlemen, is the key word for state actions, as well as state support for the media,” he said characteristically.
In addition, he emphasized that “a bill is being passed in the Greek Parliament these days, which will set rules of full transparency regarding such financing, but also for the consolidation of the media with professionals”.
“Greece is a democratic country for everyone, citizens and journalists, and it proves it in practice,” he noted and immediately added: “Without exceptions, without shadows, without asterisks, setting institutional guarantees. The press is characterized by reliability and pluralism, at the same time enjoying the freedom it should, so that finally the citizen is informed validly and objectively. Because that’s what it’s all about.”
