Today, a train with hundreds of diesel heaters and almost two dozen power plants worth fifteen million crowns headed for the Slovakian border with Ukraine from Libeň railway station. The cities of Kyiv and Mykolaiv will share humanitarian aid from the capital’s stocks.
Aid goes to Kyiv as Prague’s partner city
The six-car train set carries 626 diesel heaters and 18 power plants on 315 pallets. Four hundred heaters and ten power plants will be given to Kyiv, the rest to Mykolaiv.
“The choice is due to the fact that Kyiv is our partner city. Mykolaiv, on the other hand, is a city that has faced heavy shelling by the Russian army and the civil infrastructure there has been disrupted.” the mayor of Prague explained while loading the material Zdenek Hrib (Pirates).
“We have to send things that are urgently needed now, but of course it will be necessary to follow up with the overall reconstruction of the Ukrainian cities that were destroyed. We will want to enable the refugees who are here now to have the opportunity to return, which of course will not happen without massive investment.” Hřib said.

According to Hřiba, these are stocks that Prague had long-term storage at the Capital City Services Administration. “It’s all the diesel heaters we have. But even then, crisis preparedness will not be jeopardized, because the fire department still has to keep the supplies by law. We had them extra in case of an unexpected event, and I think it happened right now.” added Hřib, stating that the total value of the shipment is approximately 15 million crowns.

As Jana Mlkvá, director of ČD Cargo Logistic, informed, the cargo will go from 24 to 48 to Čierna nad Tisou near the Slovak-Ukrainian border. There, in cooperation with Ukrainian railways, they will be transferred to wide-gauge wagons. ČD Cargo has experience with transportation to Ukraine, it has already delivered humanitarian and military aid.
