Two-day Eteron events on the housing problem in Greece
Eteron – Institute for Research and Social Change, within the framework of the project “Rents in the Heights”, is organizing two-day events tomorrow, Tuesday, December 13 and Wednesday, December 14 at its offices (Leokoriou 38-40, Psirri, Athens). With “The Roof is on fire | Rent – Housing – Policies”, the program of events starts with the screening of two documentaries on the first day and continues with the main event on Wednesday, which includes two rounds of discussions with experts from Greece and the abroad.
The aim is to shed light on aspects of the issue, to connect the housing problem in Greece with international and European trends and to discuss policy proposals. After all, since the beginning of the year, Eteron has shown that the rent problem in Greece is not temporary, but structural and requires the activation of both political will and civil society.

Tuesday, December 13

It will be preceded by a video message from Leilani Farha, former UN rapporteur on Housing and Human Rights, who stars in the film, and will be followed by a short intervention by Georgia Alexandri, postdoctoral researcher in Spatial and Social Research.

Discussion on the answers needed by Greek society to the housing problem, the State’s initiatives so far and the role of renter’s movements/organizations in solving the problem with: Athina Arabatzi, ELIDEK postdoctoral researcher (AUTH) in Social Urban Geography . , Thomas Malouta, Emeritus Professor in the Department of Geography at Harokopion University, Eva Betavatzi, member of the coordination group of the Action Coalition for the rights to housing and the city – EAC, and Dimitra Siatitsa, Dr. architecture – urban planning, housing and city researchers.
Giorgos Lialios, a journalist at Kathimerini newspaper specializing in environmental, urban planning and spatial planning issues, will coordinate.
