30 million euros for electromobility
The city of Cologne would like to set up more charging options for electric vehicles. By 2026, 1,000 additional charging points will be available in the city.
The city of Cologne would like to further expand its offers for charging electric vehicles. The city announced this in a press release. According to this, 1,000 more charging points are planned in the city area in addition to the 640 that already exist. The city of Cologne agreed this with Stadtwerke Köln (SWK) on Tuesday. Existing offers are to be expanded at heavily frequented points.
“Promoting electromobility is therefore one of the keys to sustainable and future-oriented transport development,” the city said in a statement. The funding thus makes “a significant contribution to an environmentally friendly design of traffic in our city.”
From the beginning of 2023, the city would also like to involve the citizens, Cologne companies and politicians in the planning of the expansion when it comes to finding a location. The charging points should be set up where they are really needed.
The completion of the 1,000 new charging stations is scheduled for 2026. The project is estimated to cost over 30 million euros.
