TG Masaryk Elementary School on Orten Square has undergone many changes in recent years. Thanks to extensive reconstruction, it now has six more classes for a total of 150 pupils. And a completely new dining room combined with a modern kitchen now has a larger capacity.
According to information on website In Prague 7, construction work on the reconstruction and modern installation of a gastroenterprise took place in four stages throughout the year. In addition, the food service and the school canteen were working all the time.
“The number of children in our district continues to increase, so it is necessary to continue the current pace of increasing places in schools and kindergartens. Since 2019, we have managed to open six new classes for 150 children at ZŠ TG Masaryk. With regard to the significantly larger capacity of the school, it was necessary this year to further modernize the kitchen and expand the dining room, so that all children, teachers, cooks and other school employees have adequate modern facilities for quality catering,” said the mayor of Prague 7, Jan Čižinský (Prague itself).
Up to 600 lunches per day
The kitchen is now able to serve up to 600 portions per day, compared to the previous 450. It has undergone a complete renovation and is equipped with modern equipment. The capacity of the canteen was increased from the original 86 seats to 122, which is crucial for the operation of the school.
The layout of the kitchen also changed, and the space was also expanded to include a part of the access corridor and a former warehouse. All wiring and floors were replaced. Ceilings, tiling or doors and windows are also new. The storage areas and technical facilities, which are now used, for example, by a grease trap, have also undergone modifications.
The employees praise the dishwasher in particular
It goes without saying that the supply of all equipment for the catering business is provided. For example, cooling boxes for storing food or modern equipment for preparing meals and washing dishes.
“The washing capacity of the white dishes is key to ensure the fast and smooth delivery of the required amount of food. That is why a modern, fast and operationally efficient dishwasher with a sliding belt and dryer is very important to us. The canteen workers also highly appreciate the black dishwasher, which makes the difficult cleaning of pots and pans a lot easier for them,” said school director Jan Rychtr.
The repair of the dining room, kitchen, technical facilities and warehouses cost a total of 31.7 million crowns including VAT. A total of 24 million went from subsidies from the capital city of Prague.
In two years, 150 pupils were added
The reconstruction of ZŠ TG Masaryk has been ongoing with breaks since summer 2019. In the first stage, until September 2020, the left wing and the central part of the building were reconstructed and modernized. This brought three new classrooms, a cabinet and changing rooms.
As part of the phase, which the school started in July 2020 and completed last June, another three new classrooms, a cabinet and changing rooms were created in the right wing of the building. In total, the capacity of the school increased by 150 pupils in two years.
