The German federal prosecutor’s office has initiated extradition proceedings against the man arrested on Wednesday in the course of the German “Reichsbürger” raid in Tyrol. The celebrity chef is in the Innsbruck prison and was handed over to him on Thursday, the Innsbruck public prosecutor’s office confirmed.
The 62-year-old is accused by the German federal prosecutor of allegedly being an accomplice in a terrorist organization. According to media reports, the arrested person is said to be a 62-year-old from Munich who worked as a cook in a posh hotel in the Kitzbühel district.
According to the Innsbruck public prosecutor’s office, the suspects must be handed over to the German authorities within 60 days, unless there are reasons not to do so. The arrest of the German in the Kitzbühel district took place on Wednesday morning due to a request for legal assistance from the German Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office. If the suspect does not object to the extradition, the handover to the German authorities can also take place well before the 60-day period has expired, according to Hansjörg Mayr from the Innsbruck public prosecutor’s office. In Austria, the Regional Court of Innsbruck is responsible for conducting the proceedings. The questioning of the suspect for the handover was still pending on Friday.
A total of 25 arrests
Apart from the arrest in Tyrol, two other suspected searches took place on Wednesday in the Amstetten area in Lower Austria, as the spokesman for the federal prosecutor explained. He could not say whether the accused are German or Austrian citizens.
In the large-scale police action, a total of 25 people were arrested, 23 of them in Germany. 22 Arrested are accused of being a member of a terrorist organization that wanted to overthrow the political system in Germany. Three other arrested are considered supporters. With the exception of one Russian, all suspects have German citizenship.
