Omroep Flevoland – News – Community center Het Palet celebrated its opening during the Netherlands-Argentina
Community center Het Palet in Lelystad has been open again since Friday. At the end of September, the building had to be closed immediately because it was sinking. On Friday evening, the neighborhood association celebrates the reopening of the door together to watch the World Cup match between the Netherlands and Argentina.
“We closed on September 22,” says chairman Jolanda Prins-Meering. “In the end, yesterday we received the redeeming word that we can open again, so after two and a half months.” The building in the Atolwijk was built in 1990 as an emergency building. When the floor sank this fall, the municipality of Lelystad made 20,000 euros available for emergency repairs.
Level again
“They dug quite a bit on the outside and removed all the wood rot,” says the chairman. “Then they placed new foundations and wood, so that the building is completely level again.” The municipality is investigating whether a new community center can be built somewhere in Lelystad.
But for now, activities can be held in the old building again, starting with Friday night’s football match. The beer is already cold. Prins-Meering does not know how many people to expect. “I hope the room is filled. I’ve already had a lot of reactions from our members, so I think we need to add some more chairs.”
