LeasePlan approved purchase. ALD has new director general in Portugal
ALD Automotive Portugal has appointed Nuno Jacinto as managing director, succeeding Marek Malachowski. The new person in charge takes office at a time when the European Commission has taken over the acquisition of LeasePlan by ALD Automotive.
Nuno Jacinto was appointed managing director of ALD Automotive Portugal, succeeding Marek Malachowski who will remain in the company’s structure, providing Consultancy functions for the General Management.
Until this appointment, Nuno Jacinto held the position of commercial director of ALD Automotive Portugal, having actively participated in the declaration of the fleet manager as a leader in the supply of mobility solutions.
The position of commercial director of ALD Automotive Portugal is now taken over by Fernando Sousa, formerly Commercial Responsible for the new business area, while Patrícia Sanches remains as Partnerships Director, developing the indirect commercial area.
“My objective, and to which I am fully committed, is to continue to support the business in the many challenges that mark the present time, as well as in the many achievements that lie ahead, giving continuity to a differentiated approach, in a highly challenging market”, says Nuno Hyacinth.

European Commission approves merger
ONE European Commission took over the acquisition of LeasePlan by ALD Automotive for 4.9 billion euros. The merger will create one of the largest fleet managers in the world, with more than 3.5 million vehicles under management.
The Competition Authority is anxious for the merger of two of the largest renting operators in the European Economic Area (European Union plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway), but has imposed conditions in the Czech Republic, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Norway and Portugal, where the merger of two companies could create a situation of dominance.
