It’s a funny request that was just made by Agatha Roby. Thursday, December 8, 2022, the opposition municipal councilor (AMC) sent a letter to two deputies at the town hall of Toulouse to ask to eat, during the next municipal councils, the same meals as those served in school canteens.
“Each adviser will be able to slip into the place of the children”
This letter has been translated to Marion Lalanne de Laubaderethe assistant in charge of actions for growing well, and Jean Jacques Bolzanthe deputy in charge of eating well at the town hall of Toulouse.
“In order to show all the elected officials that the canteen offers quality food, as you say, I hereby ask you that we eat the same thing as the children, of course with the quantities for adults during the next municipal councils. Like this, each councilor will be able in a certain way, to slip into the school canteens and in the place of school children.”
The controversy swells for several days
For several days, the elected opposition member has been comparing the dishes served in schools and those posted by Jean-Jacques Bolzan on his social networks following a meal at the restaurant.
On December 5, Agathe Roby explained:
“For a week, we obtained photographs of the plates served in several elementary schools and kindergartens in the city, and the findings are clear. Lack of taste, insufficient quantity for kindergartens, lack of starches, the response of the part of the majority in these arrests is enough to make more than one parent cringe.
She pleads for “our children to eat better” and asks to “watch the presentation of the meals, because the desire to eat a dish often passes first by its appearance”. The unsuccessful candidate in the last Legislative also proposes to “build a second central kitchen and install a vegetable room to improve the taste and nutritional quality of the dishes” and “to build in all the new schools a kitchen which makes it possible to prepare part of the meals on the spot”.
Menus validated by a commission
Asked by Toulouse newsJean-Jacques Bolzan retorted: “We can discuss the resentment of children in relation to this or that dish, but since the reform of 2021, when the meals went from 5 to 4 components, we have not had any negative feedback”.
If he admits that the dishes served are not worthy of a “four-star restaurant”, the assistant to Eating well recalled that the composition of the plates served was decided by a commission.
“Around the table, there is the quality manager, a dietician, the director of the central kitchen… Parents can also be present. This meeting allows us to readjust the menus if necessary. We consider what has worked well, what has worked less and from this analysis, we validate the menus to come, which meet national standards, both in terms of the quantity and variety of products served, “detailed the elected.
As a reminder, the next city council will be held on December 16th. It remains to be seen what elected officials will find on their plate…
