Sweden’s Metacon, Romania’s GIC in master supply deal for green hydrogen plant
BUCHAREST (Romania), December 8 (SeeNews) – Swedish energy systems maker Metacon said on Thursday it has signed a main supply agreement with Romania’s Ground Investment Corp (GIC) for a 10 MW containerized hydrogen production facility worth 16.13 million euros ($16.9 million ). ).
The agreement includes the delivery of an integrated hydrogen system consisting of an electrolysis-based hydrogen production unit, a hydrogen compression and storage unit, a fuel cell unit and an integrated hydrogen filling station, says Metacon in a press release.
“We see a very strong potential for green hydrogen and hydrogen applications in Romania. We are excited to partner with Metacon in this pioneering wind-linked green hydrogen project,” said GIC CEO Dan Oproescu.
GIC aims to initially produce around 1.3 tons of renewable green hydrogen per day with renewable energy from a 30 MW wind farm for various purposes: to balance the total energy production of the wind power system, to fuel fuel cell electric vehicles (FC-EV) and to supply compressed green hydrogen to third parties.
“We are very pleased to have entered into this main supply agreement with Ground Investment Corp SRL in the Romanian market. The contract demonstrates confidence in Metacon’s ability to provide integrated hydrogen solutions for its international customers. This will be a ground-breaking multi-purpose green hydrogen project, says Metacon’s president and CEO Christer Wikner.
The contract will be implemented in two stages.
The parties agree that a prerequisite for the first stage to begin is that GIC receives the EU funds applied for for the project. GIC expects the EU grant decision to be made in the first half of 2023.
If the EU funding is not granted, the parties will discuss the possibility of proceeding with the project anyway on the current terms of the contract and/or if necessary agree on relevant changes to the contract, Metacon added.
