Residents of the Paléficat district in Toulouse bothered by noise pollution and rave parties
“It’s getting hard to yearn for peace and quiet in the neighborhoodr” testifies Claire, a resident. A district still little urbanized, composed of diffuse pavilions, mainly located along the service roads, such as the path of Virebent where a rave party took place last Saturday. “The situation has deteriorated since the construction of a series of buildings in the Albi-Rostand district, there have also been purchases of properties left empty, with squatters and difficulties in getting them to leave, incessant noise” Claire explains.
In this district, where 7,000 housing units are to be created over the next 20 years as part of a major urban project, a warehouse located on Chemin Virebent was the site of a large rave party last Saturday, for the second time in a few weekss. The president of the “Vivre Paléficat” association, Pascale Noirot, who lives just opposite the warehouse, says: “between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m., we saw hundreds of vehicles arrive, cars, vans, camper vans. They forced the gate and installed their sound system in the shed. I heard the bass sound all night and called the police.”
The national police intervened blocking access to the warehouse with two cars. Around 10 a.m., reinforcements arrived to ticket the vehicles parked in an anarchic manner. Claire also heard the noise: “around 3 am, the young people were honking their horns, shouting to each other in the square, not far from my house, I called the police who arrived around 10.30 am and took the young people out of the warehouse. They left bottles, cans, trash.” The national police, contacted by France Bleu Occitanie, explains that it is complicated to verbalize the participants in a rave party, gatherings are not prohibited. It is necessary to challenge the organizer to be able to seize the material.
Pascale Noirot asked a meeting with the district mayor, Maxime Boyer. Contacted by France Bleu Occitanie, the elected official received the president of the association and “the town hall is currently looking for the owner of this warehouse, which is certainly the department of Haute-Garonne. The premises must be more secure to prevent access. The owner must also file a complaint to allow an investigation.
The participants in this rave party were about a thousand, according to Pascale Noirot who spoke with young partygoers in the early morning, and asked them to pick up their trash cans. They attributed to him that they had bought their seats around 12 euros on the Internet or at the entrance to the warehouse. There was a lot of alcohol, to eat, the organizer had apparently well organized the wild party.
