Rally against a boiler project north of Toulouse
A rally against a biomass boiler project carried out by the Metropolis of Toulouse and qualified as “ecocide” is organized on Saturday, December 10.
The project to build a biomass boiler room with a heating network, near avenue d’Atlanta in the north of Toulouse, is the subject of debate. Opposed to this installation, the collective Toulouse heater and neighborhood committees organize a gathering on Saturday December 10 at 10 a.m. on the Place de la Roseraie. They qualify as ecocide this project carried by the Metropolis of Toulouse.
Lack of consultation of the City of Toulouse on the boiler room
The construction of this boiler room was planned, originally in ZAC Matabiau. But its location was changed “without consultation” and the project also advanced “without consultation”, regret the collective Toulouse chauffe and the neighborhood committees. “(It is) a project carried out in urgency and haste to meet the deadlines imposed by the delivery schedule for the first buildings of the ZAC Matabiau scheduled for January 2024.
They fear that ” the town hall of Toulouse does not plan to inform the inhabitants until the delegation of service has been signed, that is to say at the time when there will be nothing more to negotiate: neither the choice of technology, nor the mode of management of the installation. »
The choice of biomass
The future residents of the boiler room also fear the choice of biomass. Especially since the structure should run at a rate of 60 gigawatt hours per year. They point to a “cheap solution.” Of all the possible solutions, the choice of burning biomass is the worst”.
In addition to being “polluting”, this solution is “ dependent on fossil fuels at all stages : exploitation, transportation and combustion”. Also, “the resource (is) not that renewable. If wood energy is still considered renewable energy on the scale of a human life, there are many reasons to think that it cannot last. »
