Pilots called on Brussels to come up with Single European Sky
The ability to fly allows us to determine between 6% and 10% CO2 emissions in Europe. In addition to CO2 savings, the passenger also reaches their destination faster.
One Single European Sky
KLM is positive about the European initiative to create a single European sky (Single European Sky 2+). A European airspace makes a direct positive contribution to aviation’s ambition to reduce emissions. In addition to our investments in fleet renewal, more sustainable fuels and extensive ground operations, Single European Sky 2+ is necessary to achieve KLM’s sustainability goals.
Through direct flights in Europe we can save 6 to 10 percent CO2 in Europe. There is a huge opportunity in Brussels to achieve this CO2 reduction. Very positive to see how our pilots are working every day to fly as efficiently as possible, save on fuel consumption and reduce emissions. Single European Sky is a crucial piece of the puzzle to further reduce CO2 emissions in Europe in the short term. — KLM CEO Marjan Rintel
Commitments: global, European and national
KLM has strong ambitions when it comes to making aviation more sustainable. We are working with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to align carbon emissions reductions with aviation’s trajectory to stay well below 2°C warming, as set out in the Paris Climate Agreement signed in 2015 . In a European context, KLM supports the measures in the Fit for 55 package that really make the aviation industry more sustainable. KLM is also a participant in the Sustainable Aviation Agreement in the Netherlands, in which concrete reduction plans have been agreed between the sector and the government.
