Toulouse, twinned with the city of kyiv since 1975, is once again launching a solidarity campaign this winter for the benefit of the Ukrainian population. Many displays in town echo this.

Ukraine frozen in cold
The frontline in Ukraine has stabilized since the Ukrainian army scored a restrained success in liberating the city of Kherson and surrounding areas on the western bank of the Dnieper River last month. The heaviest fighting is currently concentrated around the eastern town of Bakhmout, which Russian forces have been trying to capture for months. The country is struggling to repair its energy facilities, damaged by a fresh salvo of Russian missiles, and to resupply Ukrainians deprived of power and water as freezing temperatures hit the country.
At least 40,000 Ukrainian civilians, including more than a thousand children, have been killed since the start of the Russian invasion in February.
