Toulouse: major intervention by firefighters for a three-storey building threatening to collapse on Place des Carmes
This Tuesday afternoon, the firefighters of Haute-Garonne deployed an important device in the Carmes district for a building threatening to collapse. The neighborhood is cordoned off and the building is being evacuated.
Pedestrians and regulars of the Place des Carmes in Toulouse were stunned by the massive presence of trucks and emergency vehicles. Indeed, around 3:30 p.m., a major device of the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis 31) was deployed because of a three-storey building showing signs of fragility and threatening to collapse. The three-storey building located at 17 place des Carmes is in danger of collapsing. In order to secure the area but also to evacuate the scene, five firefighters and 16 firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
This is not the first time that this historic district of Toulouse has been evacuated or threatened with collapse. In August 2020, the structure of a building had been weakened on rue de la Fonderie, and cracks had appeared. The circulation of part of line B of the metro even had to be interrupted for almost a week, to prevent the vibrations from weakening its structure.
