SM Caen returns to training
We had left them last November 18 on a canceled session due to the report of the Coupe de France match against Vire
. Eighteen days later, the players of the SM Caen
went back to training with 45 minutes of physical work on the Colline aux Oiseaux.
“Basically, basically, they had a week of complete rest, explains Benoît Pickeu, the physical trainer of the Norman football club. And they were asked on the second week of vacation to do six sessions each with different programs. We are not going to resume all the ground work even if you see that today (Monday) we were able to do 45 minutes of aerobic work which still corresponds to good ground work.
After a first part of the season with fifteen games concluded with a fifth place, the Malherbistes have therefore recharged the defendants for a second phase with 23 league games. “It feels good to cut a little bit and recover a little bit of freshness to start off on the right foot, said Caen captain Romain Thomas after the session. We have six months to go now and I hope we will have maximum strength. There may be teams that will reveal themselves as early as December and then it will be long. For me, it’s a second part of the season that starts with this cut.”
This longer and earlier truce was exceptionally put in place due to the World Cup in Qatar. But Benoît Pickeu would not be against seeing it become a permanent part of the calendar. “Usually we have no cuts or only four to five days and in reality the players have not caused any cuts in the winter. Perhaps we should take inspiration from this for the next seasons. I it is interesting for the players to allow them to really cut back on this winter period and to rethink the calendar with now the championships at eighteen clubs A championship is a long time when you count the friendly matches and the Cup matches and that we will go until June. It is interesting to have this physical and mental break.
Next week, the Malherbistes will go on stage in Les Sables d’Olonne (from December 12 to 15) before playing Vire in the Coupe de France in 11 days (December 17). Ligue 2 will resume in 20 days with a trip to Bastia the day after Christmas.
