One of the negotiations regarding the sharing of the surplus electricity producer’s income will be with the electricity supplier to which Lithuania imports the most electricity, which is the main exporting country, says Deputy Minister of Energy Albinas Zananaviius.
According to him, discussions about this between Lithuania and the representative of Vedia will take place in the near future, in the next week or so, and if no agreement is reached by December 15, the European Commission (EC) will be asked for help.
An additional technical meeting is required, which we plan to hold in the next week or so, with the goal of having answers on December 15, whether we will have a strong agreement on the definition of the main oil for export, or whether we should apply together to the European Commission for an additional definition, on Monday after the remote meeting with the wedding Inframe General Director of the Ministry of Energy, Magnus Blumerii, told journalists A. Zananaviius.
today we have settled on a rather insignificant technical issue, as far as it is related to all the legal circumstances that determine the definition of the main exported oil, as well as the export flows, said the vice-minister.
A. Zananaviius did not reveal the specific content of the discussion: these are negotiation questions, which we try not to answer in order to maintain trust between the negotiation partners.
The vice-minister also does not indicate what part of the excess income of the electricity producer of the power plant might go to Lithuania: the Lithuanian people say that there is no need to share the unharvested moose, so maybe let’s leave that question for the future.
According to him, the received money will be used to cover the expenses of the state budget for the compensation of electricity and gas users.
According to the current plan, the Government has set compensation for energy resources until the end of the heating season and no new compensation is foreseen. Thus, all the collected money will be intended to compensate for the already incurred budget expenses, which are quite large, according to A. Zananaviius.
Lithuania mainly imports electricity via the 700 megawatt (MW) submarine NordBalt cable. Therefore, electricity also enters Lithuania through connections with Latvia and Poland.
The energy ministers of the European Union decided at the end of September that the surplus income of companies producing cheap wind, solar, nuclear or water energy and lignite (brown coal) will be redistributed, setting a price ceiling of 180 euros per megawatt hour.
The regulation approved in Brussels states that by December 1, with the help of the European Commission (EC), an agreement on the sharing of the collected surplus income of the electricity producer must be signed between the 100% electricity import-dependent and the main electricity exporting oil.
