NM3: a serious VCGB wins against Toulouse
The VCGB ended this year 2022 in style at home by defeating the hopes of Toulouse with a score of 111 to 71. A serious match, which brings this series to 4 consecutive victories.
Thomas Baurens’ players started the game well thanks to the solid trio Condé-Mayeta-Dufau (9-0). The Toulousains, however, stick together in stride (9-9), carried by a good Le Roux (11 points scored in this first quarter). Supported by Cancel, they even lead in the score (14-16 then 17-19) despite the winning shots from Bourez, Collin and Condé.
Behind, the Gersois will tighten their defense, and inflict a 17-4 to take a certain lead on the scoreboard after ten minutes (34-23). Relying on heavy defensive pressure, they widened the gap a little more, and thanks to three new award-winning shots from Assim, Dufau and Mayeta, the locals put the Toulouse at a good distance at the break (51-33).
Iron defense and great skill
Upon returning from the locker room, the young people from Haut-Garonne did not give up despite the gap. But the men of President Vivès have the wind in their sails and maintain their defensive pressure. If it is not the Condé-Lebigot-Patey trio, it is the gunners, with a very good passage from the young Lauret, who maintain the gap (82-56). Everything succeeded in the Gersois and everyone participates in this great collective performance. Despite the good passages of Burlet, Sylva Burgos and Hamlaoui, the Toulousains did not prevent the Vécégébistes from passing the 100 point mark for the first time this season by Patey and signing a big victory (111-71).
The Vécégébistes managed a good collective performance against a Toulouse formation which was not easy to maneuver. The gap does not reflect the qualities of this young team which played without restraint, with a well-oiled basket and strong individualities. But on Saturday evening, the Vécégébistes were unplayable. An iron defense that allowed them to widen the gap and an insolent address with 16 award-winning shots that allowed them to maintain it. The results of this day have the main consequence of splitting this pool in two, the most important being that the VCGB remains in the upper part of the ranking before a last and perilous trip to Oloron for this year 2022.
