The election of Bertrand Petit, MP for Pas-de-Calais, is canceled by the Constitutional Council
A member’s chair is free, that of Bertrand Petit elected under the various left label and who sits in the PS group. The election of the deputy for the 8th constituency of Pas-de-Calais is canceled by the Constitutional Council. The decision fell on Friday.
“RenĂ© Hocq, deputy to Mr. Petit – who was elected deputy in this constituency – appeared on a list of candidates for the senatorial elections which took place in the department of Pas-de-Calais in 2017, in third position, after Dominique Watrin , candidate declared elected and Cathy Apourceau-Poly”, writes the Constitutional Council to justify its decision.
RenĂ© Hocq had, in 2018, acquired the status of substitute for a senator and therefore could not be the substitute for a deputy. For the Council, there is therefore reason “to annul the election of Monsieur Petit.”
“I return to the fight”
“It was part of the assumptions. I repair in combat with confidence”reacts the deputy whose election has been invalidated and who disputes the reasons for this cancellation: “In the senatorial elections, there is no substitute, each candidate on a list is a full holder.
A partial legislative election must be organized within three months in the 8th constituency of Pas-de-Calais, which includes Saint-Omer and Aire-sur-la-Lys in particular.
