Terni, joy and celebration for Venice’s 100th anniversary
A day of celebration and joy at the protected residence of Collerolletta, in Terni, for a splendid goal achieved by a woman. Her name is Venezia Attili, she is from Montefranco and today she turned 100 among the affection of her family.
The affection
The daughters Rizia and Maria Giulia, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and closest friends were celebrating its century of life. An entire existence – her family members recall – lived constantly in Montefranco, where the most important stages of her life took place, against the background of national events that the Montefrancana community, albeit with a little delay, absorbed. In the same year of her birth, the March on Rome took place and Mussolini rose to power. But there, in the periphery, there were more mists than sharpness. Thus Venice grew up together with eight other brothers and sisters, between the first experiences of elementary school and the tinkering in the shoemaker’s shop of father Armando, known as ‘dishwasher’ for his exuberance. In the village, in their free time, boys and girls met and Venice, young lady, had received the attentions of Alessandro, better ‘Lisandro’, an altruistic and affable young man soon employed by the company of Calcium Carbide and Acetylene who in Papigno had one of his establishments. The war had also called him, an anti-fascist and leader of the workers’ movement, who escaped the bombs and enemy incursions into Africa. Thus, Venice had sporadic news of him in the few letters that managed to arrive. After the conflict, they finally crowned their dream of love, but the post-war period was very hard and to make ends meet they rolled up their sleeves and rounded up with the delivery, house to house, of gas cylinders. Then, life seemed to flow more peacefully, with the birth of daughters and with so many sacrifices to get them to study. Until that bad day in November 1972, when news came from Papigno of a tragic accident at work that had taken the life of Alessandro. Those were years of disorientation and uncertainty that heavily influenced the life of Venice and her family. But the ‘skin’ was of the hard kind that preserves you and helps you to overcome it, also thanks to the affection of the daughters and grandchildren that Venice loves more than itself and for whom it represented an example of honesty, fairness and sweetness together: Cristiano, Chiara, Piero Alessandro and Andrea. Venice is also a great-grandmother: Angelica, Cassandra, Nicola, Viola, Alessandro and Giulia. Many, all gathered around her, who in these first hundred years has even managed to keep secrets, stories and idioms of an entire town, Montefranco. Venice is the protagonist of a living history, of a very intense existence interwoven with extraordinary affections. The family members of Venice thank all the staff of the Rsa di Collerolletta for the professionalism and dedication they have always shown towards their dear centenary.
