Prague 2 offers people two outdoor ice rinks PRAGUE 2 | News
Prague 2 is once again perfectly prepared for the winter season. For sports lovers, it has prepared a number of indoor and outdoor sports facilities, for example two ice surfaces in Grébovka Park and the recently opened Jammertal leisure area.
“Citizens of Prague 2 have always told us that I don’t think about those down here in Podskalí and Nuslí, that everything that happens happens up in Vinohrady. I am very happy that we could now start the tradition of skating here in Folimance as well,” praises the mayor of Prague 2, Alexandra Udženija (ODS).
Dozens of children from local elementary schools arrived at the opening ceremony of the ice rink, and the opening program was graced by a pair of talented figure skaters.
And while elsewhere you can find, for example, the use of polyethylene sheets next to the ice on the ice rink, the ice rink under the Nuselský bridge has remained true to tradition.
“I think we all like the classic rink, so if it’s possible and if it’s possible to do it, I think it’s right, this tradition is nice, so the traditional rink and leads,” explains Alexandra Udženija ODS, mayor of Prague 2.
The new leisure area Jammertal was put into operation in the summer of 2022 and offers an abundance of activities. Every visitor, regardless of age, will find something to do there, and the oval there is directly intended for year-round operation. In the warmer months, athletes raced on it on skateboards and roller skates, with the arrival of winter it will be used by schools and the public for skating and ice sports.
“I have to say that when we opened the campus, we had our civil opposition behind us, who criticized us, that there would be a concrete lobby and so on. But as soon as we opened the area, it was full. We were surprised by the number of visitors,” the deputy mayor of Prague 2, Jan Korseska (ODS), does not hide his enthusiasm.
The ice rink in Grébovce and Folimance is available to visitors daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. until the end of February. All-day admission is 50 crowns, children under 6 and school groups have it for free. In both areas, you can rent skates on the spot and have something to warm up or a bite to eat.
