François Alu, from the Paris Opera to the Zénith de Toulouse
Recently resigned from the Paris Opera, François Alu presents Saturday, December 3, at the Zenith of Toulouse, his breathtaking show “Complètements thrown!” » designed with Samuel Murez.
François Alu embraces a new career still linked to the institution that saw him grow, the Paris Opera, but with greater freedom to act, invent and flourish.
Why did you recently leave the Paris Opera?
Above all, it was immense artistic desires that made this overflow inside me take precedence, so I preferred to free up the position of Étoile dancer rather than keep it for just a few performances at the Opera. from Paris. It will be better for the institution. We had a close, open, very simple exchange with the two directors Alexander Neef and Martin Adjari, and we are not closing any doors on future collaborations. Besides, I am leaving the Paris Opera as an Étoile dancer but I am not leaving and I am not closing the door of the Opera, I will be delighted to associate with them again but perhaps in other forms. .
Don’t you feel frustrated after so little time and without having played a role?
We didn’t know it was going to happen like that, but that’s what is quite beautiful in the end, since there was both an appointment and a farewell! It’s a first ! (laughs) I had the chance to dance a lot of star roles already during my career, even quite young, and so I’m very happy about that. And I have no frustration, on the contrary, I have more desires and I aspire to many things. I started to give conferences in companies and this only on stage “Completely thrown! which continues to tour throughout France. The success is such that there is talk of a sequel. And I want to continue making films, it’s something that I like a lot, whether it’s playing as an actor but also as a director or producer. I also write a lot, so there are plenty of projects, desires, I devour life to the fullest.
Especially since we feel a permanent emergency in your home…
I have the impression that everything passes very quickly and I ask myself a lot of questions on the subject. So actually I spent 12 years in this institution, I will be 29 on December 3 (the day before the show in Toulouse) and I want to undertake my finished life, want to be an artist entrepreneur today . That’s why I created my production company, I’ve undertaken a lot of projects and I’m obviously open to lots of new collaborations, whether with the Opera or other people. I remain really very open and what I like is creation, the artistic and I will continue to dance of course!
We see it with your show “Completely thrown! ” Who is he talking to ?
It’s a pun on the dance step, the throw, and “completely thrown” is who I am! All these characters, these voices are inside me! I think everyone has voices inside their head so the show allows you to recognize yourself but also to take some distance on yourself. My first desire was to break the what will be said to which we are very sensitive as artists. But in fact I was fed up, I want to be an artist and a free human and, how do you become free? By removing the chains and the psychological limits that we impose on ourselves! And in addition this show is very de/anse because there are 15 dance solos, 12 characters and an immense palette of sensations, fear, joy, humor, introspection, confidence…
What did you bring to your participation in the program “Dancing with the Stars” on TF1?
I was delighted to participate in these two seasons of “Dancing with the Stars” which allowed me to meet a host of people, trades, a new audience too, and I learned a lot about sports dances. . And I was pleased to find that I managed to convert a few viewers into viewers and hopefully viewers who also watched this show. I find that it is also the role of an artist today to establish bridges and to make people meet. Me, already small, I liked very much to make meet my friends between them and if I can do it through and by the means of art I am even happier.
