Prague – In Prague, near the intersection of Na Strži and Olbrachtova streets, the company Strabag has started with the depth of the pit for the planned metro station D Olbrachtova. This was told to journalists today by representatives of the Prague Transport Company (DPP) and the municipality. According to DPP director Petr Witowski, since the start of work on the construction section between Pankrác and Olbrachtová around seven years ago, the workers have already dug about a kilometer of tunnels and the company has spent a billion of the total costs of 14.5 billion crowns. The new line from Pankrác to Písnice should start operating at the end of 2029.
DPP started work on the first section at the end of April this year and also used the tunnel originally created for geological exploration. According to Witowski, the tunnels have been created in three locations so far, and now another one will be connected at the site of the future Olbrachtova station. A hall has already been built there to protect the residents of neighboring houses from noise.
“All the re-routing of utility networks, site preparation and the new anti-noise hall, which is temporary for the duration of the construction, is complete. Inside the hall there is a hole, which is now nine meters deep, will be about 34 meters deep, and from it all the mining and quarrying work for .” the entire Olbrachtova metro station,” said Prague’s deputy mayor Adam Scheinherr (Praha Sobě). He added that a noise barrier will be added to the hall.
The start of work today was preceded by the traditional blessing of the statue of Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners, who will oversee the safety of the miners during construction. The approximately 45-centimeter-large statuette was made of oak wood in Germany by the sculptor Stefan Brüggerhoff, and it and the entire structure were blessed by the parish vicar of the Roman Catholic parish near the Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace in Lhotka, Petr Šleich.
At the same time, DPP is already competing for the second section of Olbrachtov na Nové Dvory, according to Witowski, the tender is now being assessed by the antimonopoly office. The third section will be from Nové Dvory to Písnice. “We are still counting on the fact that route D should be operational in its entirety at the end of 2029,” said the director. According to earlier information, the costs should total 52.09 billion crowns. Finally, the city also plans to extend the lines from Pankrác to Náměstí Míru.
