City gardens: Small-leaved lime trees provide more greenery at the roundabout
Three small-leaved lime trees were planted at the new roundabout in Hofhaymer-Allee. In the spring, an additional environmentally and bee-friendly green area is to be added.
SALZBURG. The roundabout at the intersection of Hofhaymer-Allee – Friedensstraße – Hellbrunnerstraße should not only defuse dangerous spots for road users but also ensure more green space in the city.
Flowering meadows, perennials and grasses
Three small-leaved linden trees were planted by the traffic island there by Josef Radauer, whose company supports the city gardens in procuring trees. The City Gardens team will then take care of the small-leaved lime trees from Hamburg themselves. The three young trees will also be included in the tree register.
By spring 2024, environmentally and bee-friendly greenery in the form of flowering meadows, perennials and grasses will also be created on the central island. “The city gardeners shape the urban appearance and bring nature directly into the city. The roundabouts always stand out in particular. Even before the ornamental planting next spring, we were able to make a statement with the trees. Because trees have an effect not only have a positive effect on the city climate, but also on people’s well-being,” says Deputy Mayor Barbara Unterkofler, who is responsible for the city gardens.

“Don’t concrete over, but green”
City Councilor Anna Schiester is happy about an additional green spot in the city. “Any area in our city that is not concreted over but has greenery is a gain for people and nature. I am therefore pleased that the building department and the city gardens work so well together and that we are able to free more and more areas from the asphalt surface,” says Schiester.
