The Climate Charter of theOPCsigned by 80 cycling stakeholders
The main theme of the discussions this year was the sporting development of road cycling. Several aspects have thus been deleted, such as the classification system for teams and riders, the evolution of the calendar and the rules for participation in the races. Beyond the athlete, other subjects were discussed by the participants. Among other things, concrete actions will be implemented in line with the Climate Charter of theOPC, signed by 80 cycling stakeholders. Progress has apparently been made in the method of calculating the carbon footprint of cycling and the different ways to compensate.
Two days of constructive discussions took place during the annual UCI Women’s WorldTour and UCI WorldTour seminar in Monaco.

“Covid rules” and “concussion protocol”
The health and safety of runners are two other themes to have been addressed this year. L’OPC is collaborating with the University of Ghent to develop software that allows course organizers to plot less dangerous course routes, based on incidents that have taken place in the past. In terms of runners’ health, an agreement has been made to remove certain “Covid rules” and improvements will be made to the “concussion protocol” which has been in place for a few years.

Women’s cycling on the rise
The participants were also able to congratulate themselves on the development of women’s cycling. Indeed, the objective was to have 15 teams at the World Tour level and it is chosen done. Audience figures are also growing and this should continue next season. During the broadcast of the seminar, David Lappartient mentioned the good health of women’s cycling in his closing speech. “The 2022 UCI Women’s WorldTour and UCI WorldTour seminar once again gave rise to constructive exchanges in a spirit of cooperation between the various members of women’s and men’s professional road cycling. Cycling is on the rise, as evidenced by the extraordinary growth of women’s road cycling and the unprecedented growth of the cycle industry. We are all working together to develop our sport in all its aspects.”
