PVK recommends securing water meters against frost | PRAGUE | News
As the winter season approaches, there is a risk of damage to the water meters. Prague Waterworks and Sewerage therefore recommend proper security to their customers. Temperatures below the freezing point can damage the water meter.
“Certainly drain the entire water metering system before the winter season, protect the water meter, in case it is damaged by frost, the customer bears the costs themselves. Last season, due to poorly removed water meters, we replaced 20 of them, because we apparently failed in some they show in a way, because in the previous season there were almost 100 pieces,” said Tomáš Mrázek, press spokesman for PVK.
If the water meter is located outdoors in a water meter shaft, it is recommended to put a covering layer of insulating material on it.
“It is ideal to fill the shaft with polystyrene or put a polystyrene board, some insulating cotton wool, but not glass wool. If you have a water meter already in the barracks, it is ideal, if you are going away for a long time, to drain the entire water measuring system, wrap the pipes with some insulating material and ideally do not ventilate the room at all and, if necessary, at least heat it there at least,” said Tomáš Mrázek, press spokesman for PVK.
In the event that water meters are damaged due to low temperatures and poor protection, call the customer line 840 111 112 to inquire. Technicians will then be sent to repair the defects.
