Essentials, broadcast by VPRO, was awarded as the best European youth programme. RTL 4 game show The Traitors walked away with the award for best reality series. The NTR web series There are limitations finished first in the Multiplatform Series category.

Essentials

In Essentials children get a haircut at Marko’s hairdresser and tell them what is on their minds. The idea is that we not only see what’s going on on their heads, but also what’s going on inside their heads. It was one of three Dutch programs nominated for the best European youth programme. The other two programs were The core and the reality series Hello, I have cancer.

Director Menno Otten addresses the children who participated in the program in his word of thanks. “This award is an affirmation that your stories should be collected. That you wanted to tell them before, I am forever grateful to you,” said the creator. Editor-in-chief Juliëtte van Paridon says she is ‘super proud’ that’Essentials offers a platform for what children have to say.’

RTL boss Peter van der Vorst responds to the price for The Traitors: “This international award is another wonderful recognition for all the hard work and passion that goes into this format.”

The Golden Rose

The Golden Rose is one of the most popular European television awards. Last year’s classics, three Dutch programs have chances of winning the prizes: Front messages (BNNVara), Tower C (VPRO) nl Anne Frank’s Video Diary (NTR). None of the nominees managed to get the Golden Rose. In 2019, two Dutch programs won a prize, the documentary The Greenaway Alphabet and the NPO web series #Tagged.
