New school book should convey joy in customs
Culture
What do Salzburg’s elementary school students know about local customs? The Salzburg home clubs haven’t found enough yet and have therefore developed their own textbook. The aim is to bring the local folk culture closer to the children in a playful way.
In cooperation with the Salzburg Education Directorate and an artist from Vorarlberg, the Heimatvereine have developed a coloring book for the third and fourth graders of elementary school. You can find there, for example, the Tresterer, the Aperschnalzer or the Lungauer Prangstange.
Inspiring children for customs and tradition
The customs are explained in short, crisp texts suitable for children. A different kind of general education – everything to encourage the youngsters to follow local traditions.
“The idea was simply that we have long had the experience that children can be enthusiastic about customs from the state of Salzburg, no matter where they come from – even if their parents were not native Salzburgers. And now we’ve said we’ll start the project, develop a coloring book, pick out the expected customs and see how it goes down with the children,” explains Hannes Brugger, state chairman of the Salzburg local history associations.
30,000 copies of the book have already been printed. During the week, all elementary school students from Anthering to Zederhaus should have their new coloring books in their school bags.
What do Salzburg’s elementary school students know about local customs? Not enough! At least that’s what the Salzburg home clubs think and have therefore developed their own coloring book for school children. Equipped with colored pencils and brushes, the local folk culture should be brought closer to the students.
