Basketball: Luxembourg brings back a historic victory from Switzerland
The Luxembourgers have won their first victory in the Euro 2023 qualifiers, and what a victory! They left no chance for Switzerland, who received them in Friborg (43-81). In the lead from the first moments of the match, they have never doubted against a team at the bottom of the bucket since their very heavy defeat on Thursday in Italy (78-29).
Successful in their collective game despite the absence of several executives (Anne Simon, Magaly Meynadier, Julija Vujakovic), the Luxembourgers were able to count on the excellent start to the match by Lisa Jablonowski, despite being without a club this season. Already in sight against Slovakia last Thursday (57-77), the one who stopped his professional career finished the match with 17 points, 6/7 in shooting).
Ehi Etute again showed her talent to finish with another double-double (20 points, 12 rebounds) but, while she had taken all the light in the loss against Slovakia, the 17-year-old player was made steal the show by the leader of Dudelange Catherine Mreches and her 24 points (9/11 in shooting).
This victory is the first for the Luxembourg team since the final of the European Small States Championship won against Ireland (69-59) in July 2021. The selection was then complete for the last time.
