Autumn is here, winter is coming, as are the raclettes, the cold but also – and this is less pleasant… – respiratory illnesses! This year, the bronchiolitis is at its highest level for 10 years. And will, it creates traffic jams in hospitals. This is particularly the case at Toulouse.
First come not first served
With the sharp increase in waiting times, the Toulouse University Hospital communicated, Friday, November 25, 2022, on the good reflexes to adopt before going to the pediatric emergencies.
First of all, know that it is not because you arrive first that you will be taken care of in priority. “Priority depends on the level of clinical severity and not on the time of arrival”, reminds the Toulouse hospital.
Still composer on the 15th before going to the hospital
As soon as things appear, it is necessary to act. Comment ? By consulting the child’s usual doctor or pediatrician. If they cannot be reached, residents of Haute-Garonne can call SOS Médecins (24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 05 61 33 00 00) or an emergency medical center (La Faourette on 05 34 46 54 76 or la Cité of Health on 05 61 59 22 12)
Patients living outside the department are invited to contact the hospitals closest to their homes: Albi, Auch, Montauban, Foix-Pamiers, etc.
In case of emergency (and even doubt), it is necessary to systematically contact the SAMU (by dialing 15). It is the SAMU who, depending on the emergency, will direct (or not) the patient to the hospital.
Comments limiting the risks of contamination
In order to limit contamination, a few good gestures are always good to remember. For both children and adults:
- Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or use a hydroalcoholic solution
- Cover your mouth as soon as you cough or sneeze (do it in your sleeve or in a disposable handkerchief). Transmit this reflex to children
- Wear a mask and limit contact
- Blow your nose in single-use tissues and throw them away
- Avoid shaking hands, kissing, sharing personal belongings (cutlery, glass, toothbrush, towel, etc.),
- Avoid crowded places (shopping malls, public transport, etc.) and avoid taking infants and children there if possible
- Remember to ventilate your home every day to renew the air.
