Serie A women, Milan triumph in Florence. And Rome tries to escape
The Rossoneri dominate against Fiorentina and shorten on the first. The leaders do not miss a beat and fold Pomigliano
The second round of the women’s championship begins with the best Milan of the season and the ascertained start of the crisis for Fiorentina, who have not won since last October 23rd.
If, in the first leg, the Viola had ruined the Italian debut of the star Kosovare Asllani, in Florence the Rossoneri took their revenge in the most blatant way possible. It ends 1-6, with Ganz’s team which – until then – had been the protagonist of a decidedly negative first part of the championship: never so few victories (4 out of 9) and so many goals conceded (19, at least 12 more than each previous round). That’s why it was necessary to win against Fiorentina: in the event of defeat, the top-class train would have become unreachable.
SHOW
The first half is dominated by Milan, who forget they have lost three of their last four away games and confirm themselves as the team that scores the most in the first half hour. In the 45th minute he’s already up 4-0 thanks to braces from the two attacking midfielders. In the 12th minute Piemonte blocks a cross in the strait and from the small area beats Schrofenegger, who in the 19th minute also has to surrender to Thomas’s right-footed cross. The Frenchwoman, on her first goal of the season, conceded an encore in the 40th minute with a great header. A brace that also signs Piedmont, who hooks Thrige’s cross from the left in a split. In short, the game ends there, even if Fiorentina try to reopen it immediately at the start of the second half with Severini, who has just entered the field. But, in the 75th minute, the unleashed Thomas causes Breitner’s own goal and in the 90th minute Dubcova – who has his favorite victim in Fiorentina – again against the Viola, finds his first joy in the Rossoneri. Game, set and match. Waiting for Inter, Milan moves to -3 from third place.
LEAK
Roma flies higher and higher, beating Pomigliano (2-0) and consolidating first place, momentarily moving to +7 over Juve, second, waiting for the black and whites to take the field on Sunday against Como. The yellow and reds, a little tired after the great draw in the Champions League against the German champions Wolfsburg, had won all the precedents with the bells with an average of three goals per match. Two were enough for this round, one at the end of the first half and another in the last moments of the second half. In the 45th minute, Andressa widens for Serturini, who beats the opposing goalkeeper Cetinja from distance, miraculous up to then in various circumstances. In the 92nd minute Giancinti, a stone’s throw from goal, makes good use of Haug’s side and closes the match. Precisely she who, against Pomigliano, found the first goal in Serie A and who, with this goal, reaches 5, already equaling last season’s tally between Milan and Fiorentina. Seventh win in a row therefore for Spugna’s team, which dances in defense but closes its door for the fourth home game (absolute record) and for the twelfth time in 2022 (more than all). The second round thus begins in the best way. If Rome remains this, catching it will be hard for everyone.
