Mail order Munich:Verdi and Greenpeace protest against Amazon

Munich (dpa) – The Verdi union and the environmental organization Greenpeace have protested the Black Friday discount campaign at Amazon. Verdi has repeatedly asked the US company for better pay for mail order employees and for recognition of the collective bargaining agreement in the retail sector. The union called on workers in shipping centers nationwide to participate in protests. Amazon had already rejected the criticism and referred to starting wages including bonuses of at least 13 euros per hour.
Greenpeace warns the company that the annual discount battle at the end of November will contribute to excessive consumption, packaging waste and wasted resources. A good two dozen demonstrators mounted a banner several meters tall with the inscription “Black Friday: Destruction of nature as a business model” at the German Amazon headquarters in Munich. Regardless of this protest action, the group has been emphasizing its measures against environmental pollution and CO2 pollution for some time. In freight transport, for example, the company will gradually replace diesel trucks and vans with electric vehicles.
