San Marino. International day against violence against women, the PDCS: “It is necessary to promote a cultural change”
“The opposite of peace is violence. And those who want peace in the world must free the world not only from war, but also from violence”.
“These words – writes the PDCS – spoken more than 45 years ago by the writer Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn are shockingly topical.
Violence in all forms is increasing more and more and, in particular, gender-based violence is registering increasingly alarming data. News of feminicides, in every part of the world, occupy the pages of the media on a daily basis.
Despite the many actions implemented at international and national level, the phenomenon is increasingly serious. What to do? Continue to denounce, raise awareness, inform, train and above all set a good example.
It is the duty of a true democracy to continue to keep the attention on the phenomenon high.
For this reason the Christian Democrats, its men and women, with their political action continue to promote the growth of social awareness to continue to contribute to the elimination of gender-based violence.
It is necessary to overcome the mental and social resistances that still oppose the elimination of gender-based violence.
No woman should be left alone.
Violence harms the fundamental rights of the person and that is why it must be absolutely opposed.
The Republic of San Marino has already invited numerous interventions in this sense and has adapted its legislation in line with international guidelines to combat gender-based violence.
however, it must continue to be necessary to promote a cultural change so that such interventions not only indicate on paper but become increasingly part of the citizens’ conscience, to promote respect and protection of the person”.
