Efforts to get the ‘police killer’ back from Sweden – Newspaper
KARACHI: While efforts are underway to bring home from Sweden a man who killed a policemanthe police picked up his brother-in-law and driver in connection with the murder of 34-year-old police constable Abdul Rehman.
The suspect, Khurram Nisar, who has been charged with the murder, managed to escape to Sweden through a Turkish airline early on Tuesday morning by using his Swedish passport.
South-SSP Syed Asad Raza told Dawn that police had arrested the suspect’s brother-in-law Amir Qadeer and driver Aurangzeb for their alleged involvement in helping Nisar escape.
He added that both the arrested people had “conspired” to help the suspect go abroad and that they knew he was involved in the killing of a police officer.
He said when the police traced the suspect’s home in DHA, the family driver Aurangzeb was there. He had removed the license plate of the car used in the murder and covered it up. In addition, the driver also did not provide car keys to investigators.
Meanwhile, a police spokesperson said in a statement that the process to return the suspect from Sweden had begun.
“An investigative team has been formed to investigate the killing of the police officer in Clifton,” it said.
A four-member team headed by SSP Raza has been established and it would approach the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Interpol and the Swedish Embassy for the arrest of the suspect.
