The Netherlands will have 55 Kidsproof Museums in 2023
A museum receives the Kidsproof quality mark based on the contribution of children in three age groups: 4 to 6, 7 to 9 and 10 to 12 years. Despite the fact that museums were closed last year due to the lockdown, a total of 11,000 reviews have been received. To call yourself a Kidsproof museum, you need a grade of 8 or higher. In addition, the museum must have a good NET promoter score and CSAT, which are measurement tools in different children would recommend the museum to other children.
Kids-proof museums
Every year, the Museum Association publishes a list of Kidsproof museums. The full list is here to find.
Five new museums
No less than 5 new museums will receive the Kidsproof museum stamp this year in 5 different provinces. These are Royal Eise Eisinga Planetarium (Friesland), Toy Museum Deventer (Overijssel), Municipal Museum Zutphen (Gelderland), National Camp Vught (North Brabant) and Castle Hoensbroek (Limburg). With 12 awards, the province of Gelderland has the most Kidsproof museums in the Netherlands.
Explanation
The Museum Inspectors praised their assessment with an explanation. For example, an inspector wrote about the National Military Museum: “You learn a lot about the Second World War. There are a lot of vehicles and on some days you can even sit in a real tank”. Another inspector wrote about the Hunebedcentrum: “There is a nice prehistoric park with nice huts and there is a nice treasure hunt. At the end of the treasure hunt I received a stone and a diploma”. Naturalis received the following feedback: “There are dinosaurs on display in this museum. Super cool. A real T Rex. You also see a dinosaur hatching from the egg in a cutscene. They have a lot of stuffed animals there.”
Vera Carasso Director Museum Association: “Kidsproof museums are the Michelin stars in the museum world. The most honest visitors, the children themselves, judge the museums. This set the bar high and challenges museums to program what children find exciting and interesting. Over the past decade, the Kidsproof label has grown into a coveted quality mark that thousands of children participate in. We are still seeing strong growth in this group of young visitors and more and more museums are realizing how qualification attracts these new visitors. We welcome the 5 new candidates and congratulate all Kidsproof museums 2023.”
