TERRIBLE DEAD numbers in Slovakia. We will never forget THIS tragedy
BRATISLAVA – Traffic accidents claimed 200 lives this year. The police remind that their memory can also be honored this year as part of the all-Slovak commemoration, which falls annually on the third Sunday of November.
“The goal is not only to honor the memory of the victims of accidents, but also to warn all road users about the tragic consequences of traffic accidents,” said Denisa Bárdyová, spokeswoman for the Presidium of the Police Force. It was estimated that during the ten months of this year, 10,098 traffic accidents occurred in Slovakia, and 200 people lost their lives. Of them, 165 were men and 35 were women.
The most tragic and highly publicized accident that Slovakia will remember for a long time in Bratislava. The lives of five university students waiting for a bus stop were prematurely ended by a car driven by the former general secretary of the Slovak Deaflympics Committee, 60-year-old Dušan Dědeček. On Sunday, October 2, 2022 at 10:15 p.m., he got behind the wheel drunk and with his irresponsible driving massacred people standing at the public transport stop on Zochová Street.
“When converted to the number of days, approximately 33 traffic accidents occur in Slovakia every day, and two people die on our roads in three days on average. Behind every number from the statistics is a human life that cannot be returned, so when you go on the road, I always think about how thin the line is between life and death, and drive in such a way that you return to life and health.” stated the director of the traffic police Tomáš Vrábel.
The nationwide commemoration for the victims of traffic accidents will be held at 9:00 a.m. in evangelical churches in Liptovský Mikuláš, Poprad and Modra. At 10:00 a.m., people can remember the victims of accidents in the evangelical churches in Vrbovce and Lučenec. Bárdyová reminded that we should not forget the work of those who provide professional help in traffic accidents, i.e. doctors, paramedics, firefighters and police officers.
