In recent years, the Christmas period has started before the first Sunday of Advent. This is also the case this year. This weekend, the first Christmas markets start this weekend, so the mulled wine season is open. Christmas market lovers can therefore already get their money’s worth this weekend.
But not everyone is already in the Christmas mood. These people can also find their account this weekend. The last weekly market of the season will be held on the Glacis, an autumn festival will be organized and the Walfer Bicherdeeg will be held this weekend.
1) VDL “Winter Lights” Festival
(nas) – On Friday, the Christmas period has already been transmitted in the capital . On this occasion, Christmas decorations, handicrafts, toys and jewelry will be offered on the various stands spread over four sites in the Upper Town and the station district. Of course, the culinary delights are not left out.
On the Place d’Armes, the decorated Christmas tree and the giant nativity scene are among the highlights. At the foot of the Gëlle Fra, the golden Christmas tree, a giant pyramid and the Ferris wheel, among other things, to make the eyes of visitors shine. At Niklosmaart, on the Place de Paris, young and old alike had to find what they were looking for on the historic chain carousel, in addition to the food and craft stands. On several occasions, Saint Nicolas will welcome children in his living room. Instead of the ice rink, which will not be installed this year due to energy saving measures taken by the City of Luxembourg, a covered gastronomic village with a stage for musical programs and entertainment for the whole family assist visitors to Wanterpark on the Kinnekswiss.
During the Advent period, many events are organised, including concerts, the Advent circus, workshops and performances for children.
2) ”Escher Krëschtmoart” on the town hall square
(mr) – Friday evening, Esch-sur-Alzette also kicked off the Christmas period. Until December 23, the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville hosts the ”Escher Krëschtmoart”. In addition to the festive opening on Friday, an entertainment program is also planned on Saturday and Sunday.
The Christmas market is open every day from noon. Between Sunday and Thursday, the stalls ferment at 8 p.m. On Friday and Saturday, visitors can warm up with a glass of mulled wine in Esch until 10 p.m.
3) In Hesperange, the ”Wanterflair” begins.
(mr) – Saturday at 5 p.m., the town of Hesperange lights up the Christmas lights in the Hesperange park. It thus marks the start of its Christmas and winter programme, which extends until February. The Saturday festivities will last until 11 p.m.
In previous years, Christmas lights have also illuminated Hesperange Park.

Next weekend, the Stärelaf (race to the stars) takes a sportier turn. Then, from December 4, the local associations will hold a Christmas market in the park. Over the coming week, the chalet will host various events, including raclette evenings and Christmas concerts. The complete program can be consulted on the municipality’s website.
4) “Jinglemoart” in the workshops of the Kräizbierg Foundation
(mr) – The Kräizbierg Foundation workshops in Dudelange will host the “Jinglemoart” on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Visitors could not only visit the foundation’s workshops, but also find their first Christmas gifts there. The Kräizbierg Foundation offers employment to people with physical and mental disabilities in several workshops. More than 100 people now work in the Dudelange workshops.
5) Walfer Bicherdeeg
(j-ps) – This weekend, it’s the return of Walfer Bicherdeeg. There will be conferences, exhibitions and even a circus show. But these are only marginal manifestations. The main attraction of the Bicherdeeg (book fair) are the numerous stalls presenting the latest books for young and old, but also old works, among which there should be something for everyone.
A success story as you find in the books: the Walfer Bicherdeeg will take place this year without restriction.

More than 180 exhibitors have announced their participation in Bicherdeeg. Publishers and authors will present their works in hall 2, while second-hand books will be found in hall 1.
6) Red Cross Bazaar in Limpertsberg
(if) – This weekend, the weather has returned for the traditional Red Cross bazaar under the Glacis marquee, which will be held for the 76th time in Limpertsberg.

Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., many stands will offer, among other handicrafts, second-hand clothes, designer and vintage items as well as culinary specialties to taste. The proceeds will be used for actions in favor of young people in Luxembourg and around the world. On both days, a “Food Village” will open its doors, and on Sunday, the Kleeschen will be the guest from 3 p.m.
Since 2005, the event has been under the patronage of Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, President of the Luxembourg Red Cross. The program of the event can be consulted on the Internet.
7) Wine and Crémant Festival

(SH) – Wine festivals are in fact very popular in Moselle. Corn this weekend, the Luxembourg wines and crémants could also be tasted in the capital, more precisely under a tent erected on the Glacis field. This is where this year’s edition of the “Wine and Crémant Festival” .
No less than 40 winegrowers from the Luxembourg Moselle will take the opportunity to present their products to visitors. Of course, wine lovers will also have the opportunity to talk to one or the other producer.
On Saturday, wine and crémants can be tasted between 4 and 9 p.m., on Sunday between 3 and 8 p.m. The entrance costs 20 euros.
8) “Life Expo22 80s edition” at Luxexpo
(SAT) – Want to travel back in time to the 1980s? So you are at a good place to the LIFE EXPO22 80s edition in the Luxexpo halls in Kirchberg. 80 stands in the area of lifestyle and vintage bring the era of the 1980s back to life. With 200 international tattoo artists and a wide variety of catering outlets, it is possible to spend the weekend in Kirchberg in complete relaxation. Everything is also planned pour those who still wish to wiggle their hips with nostalgia on Madonna or Aha.

9) The last Glacis-Maart of the year
(dat) – Winter is fast approaching. Sunday will therefore be the last Glacis-Maaart of the current season.
The market, which exists since 2006, offer a colorful mix of flowers, fruits and vegetables as well as antiques. The market is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m..
And the City of Luxembourg has already communicated the dates for the 2023 season: March 19, April 16, May 21, June 18, July 16, September 17, October 15 and November 19.
