“Cristiano Ronaldo to Roma? The whole truth”
Tiago Pintogeneral manager of the sports area of the Romespoke in Portugal at the Thinking Football Summit and, among other things, wanted to comment on the rumors that, last summer, Cristiano Ronaldo was linked to Roma and which, given the situation of the Portuguese in Manchester, could become topical again: “One of the things that annoys me a bit in Italy is that we always talk about the transfer market. We talk every day, here in Portugal we are better off because we only talk when the market opens, but the truth is that Cristiano has never been a possibility. These rumors have never had foundations, but in Italy we talk about three different players every day, it is perhaps normal to approach each other because we are Portuguese (he and Mourinho, ed) and he is Portuguese, but this, I repeat, has never had basics“.
Tiago Pinto and Fairplay
Pinto then also spoke of the financial FairPlay that Roma, like other clubs, have to deal with: “When the club was bought it was in a difficult situation, because we were part of a group of teams that followed the rules of financial fair play. We had to carry out a complete overhaul of the squad in which we had to significantly reduce the wage bill and at the same time improve the quality of the squad“.
Tiago Pinto on youngsters and Mourinho
On young people and Mou Tiago Pinto said: “We have launched young players like Zalewski and Volpato, we are working a lot on this aspect. And Mou has been fundamental in the growth of the club, I don’t need to add anything else about him”.
Tiago Pinto and the World Cup
Lastly, it’s impossible not to talk about the World Championship starting tomorrow: “We as a club are always with our hearts in hand, hoping that the players don’t get injured, that there are no problems and that they come back well and quickly. As a Portuguese I want things to go well, but I also have to say that if Portugal can’t win I would like Argentina to win. For Dybala and above all for Messi who deserves to end his career with a World Cup. That, of course, should he fail to win Portugal“.
