Viktor Orbán: Hungary will not give up!
The prime minister recalled that in the past 12 years he had managed three major crises – the financial crisis left here after the Gyurcsány government, the migration crisis and the Covid crisis – and he had learned that: it is true that problems come from outside, but if you freeze , if you freeze, you’re ruined.
According to him, such a situation should not be overcome or survived, but should be alleviated. You have to be active and act, you have to protect your fundamental interests, he added. – I used to tell the members of the government that Hungary will not give up, this is the starting point – he said.
A ceasefire and peace negotiations are needed
He stated: a ceasefire and peace negotiations are necessary in the war in Ukraine. The sanctions policy is a step towards war, he said. He emphasized: the sanction is an economic measure, but if someone intervenes in a conflict as a result of this, he also takes a position and takes a step in the direction of one of the warring parties, i.e. in the direction of war.
He emphasized: if Europe sees itself as a party to the war, it will become more and more deeply involved in the conflict, and thus the threat to us will increase.
– It is clear that we are slipping into this war step by step; they are not shooting at us yet, but we are very close to becoming an actual belligerent
– said the prime minister, calling what Europe is doing very dangerous.
Hungary speaks the language of peace, but no one but us follows this direction – he said, noting that there are also reports that there are secret Russian-American negotiations in the background, but for now they do not see that these are substantive negotiations.
The Prime Minister stated: Hungary has never supported the policy of sanctions, and will not do so in the future.
He emphasized: Hungary cannot afford to veto every step, sometimes we have to let one thing go. On the other hand, we must insist on fighting for some other exceptional rule that suits Hungarian interests. That is why Hungary has always avoided the most devastating consequences of the sanctions – he said so far.
He stated that he is sure that if there is a ninth package of sanctions, then – at the cost of big battles – he will achieve that we will get an exemption on vital issues for Hungary, such as nuclear energy.
The prime minister emphasized the importance of national opinion
Speaking about the importance of the national consultation, the Prime Minister indicated that it is very important during the negotiations that the current Hungarian government has the support of the people behind it.
– We must clearly feel both at home and in international politics in Brussels that what the Hungarian government says is in the national interest because an entire nation thinks it is in its interest
he said.
According to the head of government, the government can reduce the negative impact of sanctions, although it is not possible to offset them with utility reductions and price caps. For this, the government has an action plan containing eleven measures so far. The last measure was to set the price of potatoes and eggs, he said, adding that the government cannot set the price of all products because it would return to socialism and collapse the economy, but people can be helped by measures in some vital areas.
He also pointed out that without the utility reduction, every family would have 180,000 HUF more expenses per month.
According to the Prime Minister, the goal for the next year is to maintain full employment, to have growth above the European Union average, to prevent Hungary from falling into recession, and to not give up on our most important national strategic goals – national unification, support for families.
He indicated that it would make sense to talk about the latter in December. He stated that we never give up on important national strategic goals, which is why he launched the government manufacturing program, supports small and medium-sized enterprises, ordered price and interest stops, and helps guest houses and accommodation providers.
Suggestions are constantly coming in, how to try to make the situation tolerable for businesses and the Hungarian people as well, he said.
Foreign funding of the left is illegal and immoral
Viktor Orbán also touched on the fact that the left-wing parties received large sums of money from abroad prior to the election, which is not only illegal, but also morally wrong and a fraud on the Hungarian citizens. He indicated: the minister responsible for the secret services and the leaders of the institutions providing secret service training should also hear their opinion on the matter, but – as he put it – there is certainly good reason to be shocked. According to him, it’s not that complicated.
– The situation is that before the Hungarian election, and even after the election, it seems that some of the political parties, the left-wing parties and their leaders, who asked for the trust of the Hungarians, were paid from abroad, and maybe they are being paid
he said. He believed that this was illegal, but the lawyers would decide that.
He stated: it is contrary to Hungary’s national interests to be initiated into election campaigns from abroad in such a rude way that certain campaign participants, persons and parties are paid from abroad.
This is not only morally wrong, but it is also a fraud on the Hungarian citizens, who believe that they are voting for a party and leader with sovereign integrity, who has no secret commitment that prevents him from serving the interests of the country in his work – indicator.
