Cologne. Cologne-based company “HyLane” will initially use 44 hydrogen trucks

The first hydrogen truck from series production received German approval this week at the vehicle registration office of the city of Cologne. The “XCIENT Fuel Cell” from the manufacturer Hyundai marks the beginning of the 44 hydrogen trucks in the HyLane rental fleet, which will be on the road throughout Germany. The Cologne company “HyLane GmbH” (a 100 percent subsidiary of DEVK) is committed to sustainable and innovative mobility in the transport sector. To this end, “HyLane” provides climate-friendly vehicles from various manufacturers in a usage-based rental model. Their goal is to expand the fleet to 150 vehicles by 2024.

Ascan Egerer, councilor for mobility of the city of Cologne, was personally present at the first registration: “In order to achieve the climate protection goals in the transport sector in general and the goals for a climate-neutral Cologne in 2035, we need to reduce the CO2-Emissions also drive technologies – especially for larger new commercial vehicles. The first registration of a standard hydrogen truck in Germany is therefore a real milestone that we are happy to support here in Cologne.”

The vehicle, which had just been registered in Cologne, was presented by Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing in Berlin as part of a specialist conference on climate-friendly commercial vehicles organized by the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport.

Facts about the truck

The Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell vehicle has a range of around 400 kilometers. The hydrogen is stored in seven tanks, which can be fully refueled within a range of eight to 20 minutes, depending on the temperature. The vehicle is equipped with a case including a tail lift.

The “HyLane” vehicle was funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport as part of the guidelines for the funding of light and heavy commercial vehicles with alternative, climate-friendly drives and the associated tank and charging infrastructure (KsNI). The funding guideline is coordinated by NOW GmbH, applications are approved by the Federal Office for Goods Transport. More information about the trucks is under www.hyundai-hm.com and to “HyLane” below www.hylane.de available.

“Hy Lane GmbH”

Founded in Cologne in 2021, “HyLane” is committed to sustainable and innovative mobility in the transport sector. To this end, the company provides climate-friendly vehicles from various manufacturers in a usage-based rental model. Leading transport companies already rely on the “HyLane” rental model and gain low-risk experience with new technologies – because they only pay for the kilometers actually driven.
