Kremsmünster is Newcomer of the Year at Aktion Österreich radelt
Kremmunster. The market town of Kremsmünster won the title of “Newcomer of the Year” in the “Austria Cycles” campaign in the categories “Municipalities 5,000 to 15,000 inhabitants” and “Companies 50 to 250 employees”.
More than 36,000 cycling enthusiasts in more than 600 companies, 600 municipalities, 250 clubs and 131 educational institutions will collect over 29 million kilometers by bike in 2022 in the nationwide cycling campaign “Österreich radelt”. Thus, 5,000 tons of CO² were saved and the health of the participants was promoted by cycling, which replaced potential car journeys. Particularly pleasing: four of the most hard-working municipalities, companies, clubs and educational institutions come from Upper Austria.
Number of participants increased throughout Austria
Climate protection minister Leonore Gewessler (Die Grünen) together with Stephan Auer-Stüger from the Austrian Association of Cities and Thomas Gerhardt from the Austrian Chamber of Commerce honored the most eager municipalities, companies, associations and educational institutions as national winners. “As another passionate cyclist, I am particularly pleased that ‘Österreich radelt’ once managed to achieve record results. I am particularly proud that, in cooperation with all nine federal states, we were able to increase the number of participants throughout Austria,” says Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler.
Kremsmünster among the newcomers of the year
New this year: Organizers who registered for the first time today were awarded “Newcomers of the Year”. Those new organizers with the highest proportion of active participants were chosen as newcomers. The market town of Kremsmünster was able to claim the title of Newcomer of the Year twice in the category “Municipalities with 5,000 to 15,000 inhabitants” and in the category “Companies with 50 to 250 employees”. As a prize for this excellent service, the market town will receive a service and repair station, which will be available to cyclists from spring 2023.
More participation for sure
“Kremsmünster has registered as a place of residence for the spring campaign “OÖ radelt” on the initiative of the group “Aktivbewegung” (Active Movement). And since the market town of Kremsmünster, as an employer, has been integrating workplace health promotion into everyday work in the best possible way since 2011, it was only natural that we would also take part in the campaign here. It was not foreseeable that we would win in two categories at the same time, but of course we are all the more pleased. Further participation in ‘Österreich radelt’ is certain,” assures Mayor Gerhard Obernberger (ÖVP).

After cycling is before cycling
From March 20th to September 30th, 2022, under the motto “Every kilometer counts!”, kilometers cycled could be entered on www.radelt.at or in the app and the performance increased in a friendly competition. In addition, exciting non-cash prizes such as bicycles, e-bikes and folding bikes were raffled off in various campaigns. The nationwide campaign is being carried out by the BMK (Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology) in cooperation with all nine federal states and aims to further increase the proportion of cycling in everyday life. This promotion will now be combined with “Winter Cycling” (promotion period from November 11, 2022 to February 12, 2023). Three employees of the market town of Kremsmünster have already registered for “winter cycling” and are already busy collecting their kilometers. Interested citizens can of course contact us at any time www.radelt.at participate.
