Accession to Schengen and support for the Republic of Moldova, discussed by Bogdan Aurescu and his counterpart from Luxembourg – 17.11.2022
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, had bilateral consultations on Thursday with his counterpart, Jean Asselborn, in the context of the visits made to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the context in which the two officials talked about Romania’s accession to Schengen, the security situation in the Black Sea region . and about supporting the Republic of Moldova, the MFA transmits, according to Agerpres.
The Romanian minister spoke, during a joint press conference, about the European importance of the Republic of Moldova.
“It is very important to counteract the effects of Russian aggression on this state. We discussed vulnerabilities regarding the energy security of the Republic of Moldova and the important support given by Romania to the neighboring country”, said Boodan Aurescu.
He recalled that on Monday he will co-chair in Paris, together with his French and German counterparts, the third edition of the Ministerial Conference of the Support Platform for the Republic of Moldova.
“Romania supplies the Republic of Moldova with electricity, approximately 90% of the needs of these countries coming from Romania. Thus, it is very important that the entire European and international community offers its support to the Republic of Moldova at this moment”, demonstrated the head of Romanian diplomacy.
Regarding Romania’s accession to the Schengen Area, Aurescu emphasized “the very positive conclusions of the report of experts from the states and of European Europe, which clearly reconfirm the fact that my country continues to respect the obligations arising from the application of the acquis .Schengen”. In this sense, he recalled the Communication on the extension of the Schengen area, sent on Wednesday by the European Commission.
The Luxembourg counterpart reconfirmed in the dialogue with Minister Bogdan Aurescu his country’s strong support for Romania’s accession to the Schengen area. Bogdan Aurescu particularly thanked Luxembourg for its support for this objective and assured that Romania will remain fully engaged at the political-diplomatic level, to mobilize the political support necessary for the rapid adoption of the Decision to join Romania to this space.
Minister Aurescu thanked his counterpart for Luxembourg’s intention to deploy a contingent of 25 soldiers within the NATO Battle Group in Romania, the decision being approved in the Luxembourg Parliament.
