Who was Sliman A. really? On Wednesday, November 16, 2022, during the third day of the trial in Rouen (Seine Maritime) of Céline V. and Jessica A., the two accused women of killing and cutting up this man’s body in 2018, several witnesses, friends and relatives of the victim, took the floor in front of the court to talk about Sliman. Some portray him as a “violent”, “impulsive”, “manipulative”, “charming” man, while others generous a “joyful”, “generous” and “loving” person, with “the heart on the main”.
“It wasn’t a monster”
Maybe it’s Vanessa S., ex-partner son constituted a civil party during the trial, which better sums up the different facets of Sliman’s personality. Together, they shared 10 years of common life. They had a daughter, now 17 years old, sitting since the beginning of the trial on the bench of the civil parties.
“It was not a monster,” she insists several times during her long testimony. “I had very good moments and not so good ones. He had his character, he could be impulsive, and on the side, adorable. She was 16 when they met, he was nine more. “It was everything for me Sliman, my brother, my friend, my husband. »
During her hearing, before the trial, she describes him as a narcissistic pervert. Today, she recognizes without hesitation that she “did not live[t] only by him. I was his”. And to add: “But it was not a monster. Don’t make him look like a monster. »
an impulsive husband
According to her, Sliman had two personalities. “We saw him, his eyes were changing, we knew what was going to happen”, describes Vanessa. The president of the court questions her: “Céline V. used this expression to describe these moments: ‘it was as if a demon was coming out of him’. Do you agree “? “Yes,” Vanessa replies. Asked about possible addictive inclinations, she refutes: “He hates alcohol. »
Sliman, I’m sure he was ill, maybe bipolarity. He had a problem. But to sum it up only like that, no.
This verbal aggression (she rejects physical violence against her, even if, however, she recognizes rape), she does not minimize it. This is the main reason for their separation. “I left, and I took my daughter,” she notes. On the subject of custody of the child, she evokes a kind of “pact” concluded between the two parties: “What was planned was that I take care of my daughter until she reaches majority, and that then he takes over. »
When they were together, described her however a loving father, who “wanted the best of the best for our daughter”. However, after their separation, she does not receive any financial assistance. When she and Sliman talk on the phone, he doesn’t ask to speak to his daughter.
Death threats and “a ticking time bomb”
For a while, Vanessa describes it as “the man of her life”, then at another time, she talks about the death threats made to her after their separation. She also returns to a turning point for Sliman: the death of his mother. “His mom was everything to him. His landmark, his sky. He felt lost. And to add: “The death of his mother is the break in his life, it was a time bomb. »
Relations with his father are much more difficult. During the various hearings, the discussions highlight the violence suffered by a father figure described as “alcoholic” and “choleric”.
“He didn’t like loneliness”
At the bar earlier in the day, the victim’s brother-in-law and therefore husband of one of his sisters, spoke. About Sliman, he mentions pressure, demands for money, threats by telephone. “One day, he had problems with his girlfriend at the time and he asked if he could come to our house,” he confides. Relationships fall apart, and they end up cutting ties.
heavy heart, Sliman’s two brothers were also heard during that day. The first describes him as someone “unhappy when he is alone, he is better with someone”. He didn’t like loneliness. He then looks back on an “unhappy” childhood. We had an alcoholic dad. We made several homes, we lived through difficult things together ”. However, they are not particularly close. They see each other little, receive news from each other through intermediaries.
Asked about his brother’s activities, he says he recovers and repairs cars. “He was moving forward, Sliman. He said to me: ‘I’m going to make a little black nest egg, and one day, I’ll set up a company!’ »
The interrogations of the accused this Thursday
But maybe it’s her cousin that Sliman was closest. The young woman, now a nurse, is full of praise for her. “He was a generous person on a human level, with his contagious good humor”. And to add: “The media portray him as a man he was not. »
If Slimane’s relations with his brothers and sisters are not always easy, she insists on the fact that “he was always present for me”. This is the memory that I want to keep. On a set always a lot. I never saw him threatening towards me or Celine. “About the couple, precisely, “they seemed to be lover. Their life seemed positive, they had a child”. However, she recognizes “difficulties”, especially after the birth of their child.
Questioned by the president of the court, Sliman’s cousin returns to a confidence that Céline had: “She told me, during a manicure session, that once she had received a slap from of my cousin”. And to continue: “If I had one day measured such a degree of gravity, I would have intervened. »
After this day and the numerous testimonies, it appears a deep duality in the personality of Sliman, victim of a crime that turned into horror. The trial continues on Thursday, November 17, 2022, with the program including interviews with Céline V., Jessica and Isabelle *.
*Isabelle is the third defendant in the trial. He is accused of having been made aware of the plan to kill Sliman and of not having prevented it. She faces five years in prison.
