City of Salzburg – Now fixed: From 1.1. significantly higher starting salaries in the magistrate
State parliament approves change in law – city ordinances follow – inexpensive annual public transport ticket as a special bonus
Green light for the salary reform in the magistrate: On Wednesday afternoon, November 9, 2022, the Salzburg state parliament unanimously approved the necessary amendment to the Magistrate Services Act (MagBeG). Now the municipal council still has to issue model sites and access ordinances, then nothing will stand in the way of implementation by January 1, 2023.
“With the reform, which we have completed at breakneck speed, the city of Salzburg is becoming a very attractive employer on the market, especially for young people. We invest around ten million euros in this every year. Starting salaries have increased significantly. You have more money when you need it most urgently to start a family or to find a home,” says Mayor Harald Preuner (ÖVP).
The most important innovations
The new, market-compliant salary system is based on the function or the activity performed. It will have 24 income bands. Education and professional experience are considered more independently. The income curve is flattened with higher starting salaries and lower final salaries, i.e. the lifetime earnings are redistributed. There are allowances only in the form of time-related additional fees.
Those who are willing to switch from the old to the new system – we are counting on at least a third of the approximately 3,200 increases – receive detailed advice. “There will therefore only be winners here,” said the city manager.
Inexpensive job ticket for employees
A special bonus is a generous subsidy for the annual public transport ticket. This “job ticket” will cost city employees (like those in the state) only 40% of the full price, 60% may be paid by the employer upon application.
