Schallenberg tested corona “positive” before trip to Berlin – Austria
Foreign Minister Schallenberg tested positive for the corona virus on Wednesday, as his office announced on Wednesday evening. He therefore had to cancel his trip to the Western Balkans summit in Berlin.
Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg (ÖVP) had undergone a rapid corona test in the run-up to his trip to the Western Balkans summit in Berlin. This then brought a positive result.
Schallenberg has to cancel the Western Balkans summit in Berlin after a positive corona test
Foreign Minister Schallenberg had already been infected with the corona virus in October 2020. At the time, he was probably infected at an EU foreign ministers’ council in Luxembourg.
Actually, Schallenberg should have attended Thursday’s Western Balkans summit as part of the “Berlin Process.” This war of Germany started in 2014 under the famous German Chancellor Angela Merkel. He was supposed to bring the six Balkan countries Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia closer together and prepare them together for joining the European Union.
Austria is a strong supporter of EU expansion to include the Western Balkans and was happy to show itself when the EU Commission recommended candidate status for Bosnia-Herzegovina in mid-October.
