Rider died in Florence, the driver who hit Sebastian Galassi passed with the yellow
The driver of the SUV that hit Sebastian Galassi, the young Florentine driver who died last October 1 during a shift, would have passed with a yellow light. This is what emerges from a report drawn up by the traffic police during the last few and already delivered to the Florence prosecutor’s office. Sebastian Galassi was 26, he was studying to become a graphic designer on the web, he loved football. And in the meantime he worked for the Glovo food delivery platform. He kept his university in this way, also trying not to burden his family. Just during an evening shift, as he was on his way to pick up a sandwich for a new delivery, he crashed into a Range Rover at the intersection of via De Nicola and via Govetti in Florence. He was almost at the sandwich shop. The young man aboard his Honda Sh scooter after the impact fell on the asphalt and a moment later he fell under the race of another car, an Audi. He was immediately transported to the Careggi emergency room, but died after a few hours in the intensive care unit.
Now the analysis of the cameras in the area and the reconstruction carried out by the traffic police seems to put a first firm point on a dynamics of the accident that has remained uncertain so far: the passage with the yellow light. A light that, however, according to the highway code, requires stopping unless there is time and space to stop safely. At least two other elements will remain to be understood. If the speed of the driver of the SUV was higher than the legal limits. And if there were also responsibilities on the part of the rider. His maneuver, a turn with which he cut the parallel avenue with the cars moving in the opposite direction, is possible. But that road, in the southern part of the city at Varlungo, is always very busy. And it is an intersection that is anything but simple to cross.
The driver, under investigation for road murder, was negative for both alcohol and drug tests. Just to clarify the points that are still uncertain, next week the prosecutor Fedele La Terza, who directs the investigations, should appoint an external consultant. He will take care of analyzing the accident and the movements of the vehicles involved. The parties will also be able to appoint their own technical consultant for a parallel examination.
