After Rouen, the white plan applied to the CHU of Bordeaux and in all the establishments of Gironde
The Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Health Agency has announced the implementation of the white plan in all establishments in Gironde, as the bronchiolitis epidemic progresses.
The crisis in hospitals and health establishments is intensifying in France. After the implementation of the white plan at the Rouen University Hospital, it was the ARS of New Aquitaine which decided on Friday to choose this measure in all the establishments of Gironde.
The decision follows “the context of difficulties and prolonged tensions in several emergency services in the department, now affecting the activities of SMUR and SAMU-Centre 15 regulation”, justifies the Regional Health Agency.
And for good reason: for many weeks, the pediatric emergency waiting room at Bordeaux University Hospital has been full. In the midst of a bronchiolitis epidemic, there is an incessant parade of patients… and the shortage of nursing staff makes treatment difficult.
Not the fault of the bronchiolitis
“There are few nursing staff on the market, it’s cyclical. And the attractiveness of the hospital is not good. It’s not because there is bronchiolitis”, explains at the microphone of BFMTV Olivier Brissaud, head of the pediatric intensive care unit.
“The state of the public hospital is very bad and there is a recurrent lack of staff in the services,” he laments.
In May, the situation at the Bordeaux University Hospital had been such that the emergencies had been closed to the public. Only serious cases, referred by the Samu, were admitted.
This new level 2 white plan allows establishments to take measures to recall staff and thus ensure the care of patients, explains the Regional Health Agency. The ARS will reassess the situation every week, in consultation with the establishments of the territory, in order to determine if the white plan needs to be extended.
