Maia Sandu, received at the Cotroceni Palace by President Iohannis, in July. “In troubled times humanity wins”
The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, was received in July, at the Cotroceni Palace, by Klaus Iohannis. It was the first visit to our country after the Republic of Moldova received the status of a candidate state for joining the European Union.
We had very consistent, applied discussions with an emphasis on many topics of bilateral interest. to follow.
Our close relationship is all the more important in the particularly difficult regional context, a context generated by Russia’s war of accord against Ukraine. Therefore, in today’s discussions, we addressed the ways in which the effects of this war can be felt as little as possible by the citizens of the Republic of Moldova”, said Klaus Iohannis.
He congratulated Maia Sandu for obtaining for the Republic of Moldova, on the occasion of the European Council in June, the status of a candidate for the accession to the European Union.
“It is a historic success, fully deserved, a real turning point for the future of the Republic of Moldova. It is a success that Romania also fought for, because for us this result was a strategic foreign policy objective. President, that Romania will continue to support the Republic of Moldova through all the levers at its disposal.
The path that Chisinau has ahead, on the path of European integration, we know is not an easy one. Completing these stages will, however, lead to the consolidation of the rule of law and to a modern, prosperous society based on European democratic values. The Republic of Moldova will have to fulfill the set of stability objectives in a time horizon as close as possible through the Opinion presented by the European Commission.
Romania will continue to be with you in these endeavors. The Support Platform for the Republic of Moldova, created in April, in Berlin, and launched by the foreign ministers of Romania, Germany and France, is an instrument that succeeded in mobilizing European and international support for Chisinau as efficiently as possible”, he also mentioned President Iohannis.
