Szijjártó: Hungary also works together with Romania, Ukraine and Slovakia
Within the framework of this cooperation, developments are being carried out in our region on a 2,215 kilometer long border section, in 7 countries, in 19 different counties.
Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó presented the Interreg program at on his social pageSlovak raj Hungary works closely with three neighboring countries, Romania and Ukraine
“The Interreg programs are of particular importance for Hungary. Even if compared to the EU, it is accompanied by a simpler European budget, but within the framework of this cooperation, developments are being carried out in our region on a 2,215 kilometer long border section, in 7 countries, in 19 different counties.
Under Hungarian leadership, we work closely with three neighboring countries, Slovakia, Romania and Ukraine, which means that the decisions made within the framework of the Interreg program affect about half of the Hungarians in the Carpathian Basin. “Its smaller budget has a decisive role in the development of the border regions and in maintaining good neighborly relations in the Slovak, Romanian and Ukrainian relations,” he wrote.
The next program plan has already been submitted for the seven years ahead
“Hungary has now again taken the lead in the cooperation, and as the managing authority of the program submitted the program plan for the next 7-year period to the European Commission on April 1, 2022, which was finally approved by the Commission’s internal decision-making forum in October,” he indicated.
He added that until the end of 2029, a budget of around 60 million euros is available in order to implement important border projects together with the Romanians and Ukrainians.
“The Hungarian-led program is the first in a series of these initiatives, Ukraine also benefits from it, and this perhaps says everything about Hungarian neighborhood policy,” he added.
“The Commission will allocate the advance payment for the program until the end of the year, so the call for tenders will open at the beginning of next year. In the case of Hungary, this affects the counties of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg and Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, which is particularly important, since the residents of the border settlements have had to face many challenges in the past period. The program will therefore open shortly and we will work to ensure that as many Hungarian projects as possible can be realized here and beyond our borders in the spirit of good neighborliness,” he indicated.
